  1. The Patricia Scoville Murder: In 1991, Patricia Scoville, a 50-year-old social worker, was found beaten to death in her Wilmington apartment. The case went cold for years until DNA evidence linked a suspect to the crime in 2016.
  2. The Anne Marie Fahey Disappearance: In 1996, Anne Marie Fahey, the scheduling secretary for Delaware Governor Thomas Carper, disappeared after a dinner date with Thomas Capano, a wealthy lawyer and political figure. Capano was eventually convicted of Fahey’s murder in 1999.
  3. The Wilmington Trust Bank Robbery: In 1981, four men robbed the Wilmington Trust Bank in Greenville, Delaware, in what was at the time the largest bank robbery in US history. The men made off with $3.7 million and the case remains unsolved to this day.
  4. The Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst Sex Scandal: In 2013, Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, a teacher at Citrus Valley High School in Redlands, California, was arrested for having sex with one of her students. It was later revealed that Whitehurst had a child with the student and had fled to Delaware to avoid prosecution.
  5. The Amy Giordano Murder: In 2007, Amy Giordano, a young mother from New Jersey, was found dead in a Delaware landfill. Her boyfriend, a former Delaware police officer, was eventually convicted of her murder.

These are just a few of the many shocking true crime cases from Delaware. Despite its small size, The First State has seen its fair share of heinous crimes that have captured national attention.
