Ingredients:
- 1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the pumpkin puree, unsweetened applesauce, and eggs until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until well combined and the dough forms a ball.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and pliable.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thickness and cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
- Place the treats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the treats are lightly golden and firm to the touch.
- Remove from the oven and allow the treats to cool completely before serving to your furry friend.
This recipe makes about 2 dozen treats, depending on the size of the cookie cutters you use. You can store the treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks or in the fridge for up to a month. Enjoy!
