Connecticut may be one of the smallest states in the US, but it has seen its fair share of shocking true crime cases over the years. From brutal murders to mysterious disappearances, here are five of the most high-profile cases that rocked the Constitution State.

  1. The Cheshire Home Invasion: In 2007, two men broke into the home of Dr. William Petit in Cheshire, Connecticut, and brutally murdered his wife and two daughters. Petit survived the attack and the case received national attention during the trials of the two men responsible.
  2. The Martha Moxley Murder: In 1975, 15-year-old Martha Moxley was found beaten to death with a golf club in Greenwich, Connecticut. The case remained unsolved for over two decades until Michael Skakel, a member of the wealthy Kennedy family, was convicted in 2002.
  3. The Richard Crafts Murder: In 1986, Richard Crafts murdered his wife, Helle Crafts, in Newtown, Connecticut, and attempted to dispose of her body by feeding it through a woodchipper. The case became known as the “woodchipper murder” and Crafts was eventually convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison.
  4. The Alex Kelly Rape Cases: In the 1990s, Alex Kelly, a former high school wrestler and prep school student, was accused of raping two girls in Darien, Connecticut. He fled to Europe and was a fugitive for years before being captured and eventually convicted.
  5. The Jennifer Dulos Disappearance: In 2019, Connecticut mother Jennifer Dulos disappeared under mysterious circumstances after dropping her children off at school in New Canaan, Connecticut. Her estranged husband was eventually charged with murder, though her body has never been found.

These are just a few of the many shocking true crime cases from Connecticut. Despite its small size, the Constitution State has seen its fair share of horrific crimes that have captured the attention of the nation.
