Ingredients:
- 2 lbs beef stew meat
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 3 carrots, sliced
- 3 celery stalks, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme [Optional]
- 1 tsp dried rosemary [Optional]
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 lb baby potatoes, halved
Directions:
- Turn your Ninja Foodi to the sauté function and add the olive oil.
- Season the beef stew meat with salt and pepper. Coat the meat in flour and then brown in batches in the Ninja Foodi. Remove the meat and set aside.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the Ninja Foodi and sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the sliced carrots and celery and sauté for another 2-3 minutes.
- Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, and add the thyme, rosemary, and bay leaf. Mix everything together.
- Return the browned beef stew meat to the Ninja Foodi, along with any juices that may have accumulated. Add the halved baby potatoes.
- Close the pressure cooker lid and turn the valve to the “seal” position. Set the Ninja Foodi to cook on high pressure for 35 minutes.
- When the cooking cycle is complete, do a quick release of the pressure.
- Open the lid and remove the bay leaf. Turn the Ninja Foodi to the sauté function and cook for another 5-10 minutes to thicken the stew.
Note:
You can also cook the beef stew using the slow cook function of your Ninja Foodi. Simply combine all the ingredients in the pot and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the meat is tender and the vegetables are cooked through.
You can also substitute making a homemade beef stew base with one of several store-bought beef stew bases available that can make preparing beef stew quicker and easier. If I use a store-bought base I skip flouring the meat and just toss everything in! Here are a few options:
- Better than Bouillon Beef Base: This concentrated paste is made from roasted beef and beef broth, and can be used to add rich beef flavor to stews, soups, and gravies.
- Knorr Beef Bouillon: This bouillon powder dissolves quickly in hot water, and can be used as a base for beef stews, as well as for seasoning other dishes like rice or pasta.
- McCormick Beef Stew Seasoning Mix: This pre-measured seasoning mix contains a blend of herbs and spices that are commonly used in beef stews, including thyme, paprika, and bay leaves.
- Campbell’s Beef Stew Slow Cooker Sauce: This pre-made sauce contains a blend of beef broth, red wine, and spices, and can be poured over beef and vegetables in a slow cooker to make a flavorful and easy beef stew.
- Pacific Foods Organic Beef Bone Broth: This ready-to-use bone broth is made from slow-simmered beef bones, and can be used as a base for beef stews, or as a nutrient-rich ingredient in other dishes like risottos or sauces.
Note that while these pre-made bases can be convenient, they may contain higher amounts of sodium and other additives than homemade beef stew made from scratch. It’s always a good idea to read the ingredients list and nutrition label before purchasing.
